The Name Game

To have a baby is a happy thing for a couple and is an achievement for most people which they treasure all their lives. The present policies of population control and the fear of being inadequately provided for the survival means to a large family is the reason that makes most people opt for the idea of a small and manageable family. Three is best and four is fine is the slogan the world goes by at the present times. To hunt out the right name and to have the naming ceremony celebrated with much pomp and fanfare is only one initial expression of the theory of parenting. This has achieved a greater degree of importance in recent years as people have a fewer number of kids and cannot exhaust their imagination in the form of a big brood. There are unique methods among the world masses in the process of naming babies. The traditional baby names are not always cute. But they are full of love and affection is a point that need not be debated on. Here is a list of naming methods-
- To have a religious leader name the baby. This is a popular feature in the directs of the Muslim faith where the family of the new born visit their religious sites and have a religious head spell a name for the new child. The name is not born out of the person’s imagination. It is the first word the person’s eyes rest on as soon as they switch the pages of their religious text the Koran.
- African tribal name their children after the name of their tribal leaders. It so happens that all children born in a particular ruler’s reign are going around with the same name. Funny but its happening!
- To name the child after ancestors is an old tradition and some old families follow the method rather staunchly. Southern states of India and the Britons are strict followers of this method.
